Open Positions on the Rail Operations Team:

Rail Controller ($7,500 signing bonus available)

Rail Controllers: Limited Time Signing Bonus

CATS is now offering a $7,500 bonus for anyone who is hired for a Rail Controller position in our Rail Operating Control Center (ROCC). This is available to hires with and without previous system experience and is paid in three phases:

Phase 1: $1,500 to be paid after 30 days of employment

Phase 2: $4,000 to be paid after:

•   The successful completion of the employee’s initial probation period 

•   HR’s receipt of InitialPRD reflecting Satisfactory Performance of their initial 90-day probationary period

•   The successful completion of the CATS ROCC Training period (at or around 4 months of employment)

Phase 3: $2,000 to be paid after six (6) months of employment

Role Requirements for Rail Operations

  • Operators must be at least 21 years of age
  • Operators must have GED or equivalent
  • Experience requirements vary by position
  • Proof of COVID vaccination
  • Background check
  • Pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.

The Hiring Process

  • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with P endorsement license
    • Candidates must obtain a CDL Class B with a Passenger endorsement, allowing you to operate vehicles that have air brakes and carry more than 15 passengers before their start date.
    • CATS will cover the cost of your CDL for qualified applicants! Operators must first obtain their CDL Permit.

  • Interview, testing, and job offer

    If your skills meet our qualifications and you pass the pre-employment assessment, we will call you to schedule an interview (lasting approx. one hour). Following a successful interview, you may receive a job offer contingent on passing the following tests, done at no cost to you:

    • Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam
    • Drug screening
    • Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) to determine if you are physically capable of performing the job (lifting, sitting in a confined space, etc.)
    • Criminal background check
    • Employment verification

    Note: You must successfully pass all required tests and pre-employment activities before advancing to the next step.

  • Orientation and training

    Once your have the CDL Class B with P endorsement license, you will be scheduled for orientation and six (6) weeks of paid classroom training with CATS. Operators must pass all training exams with 100% accuracy to remain in the training program. You will be given two opportunities to pass the assessments.
